ISLAMABAD: A dramatic situation unfolded in the capital city after a man wielding modern weapons opened fire at Jinnah Avenue on Thursday.
A TV footage showed the man coming out of a black Toyota Carolla who fired shots in the air with one of the two assault rifles in his hands. The footage also showed a woman and two children in the car.
The woman could be seen going back and forth between the vehicle and the police contingent present at the site. The woman told police that the man identified as Sikander was her husband and would only negotiate with a high-ranking police official.
SSP operations, Dr Rizwan walked over to the individual and tried to talk him into laying down his weapons. However, the armed man was later seen in the TV footage returning to his car with his guns still in his hands.
Police have surrounded the area and traffic has been blocked.
